My favorite family tradition, before I moved to North Dakota, was my families annual Christmas Eve party. It was a nice event to look forward to every year, no matter how bad things got. The food, seeing our family, and gifts were the most fun aspects of it.
Every year I could remember, except for one, the menu for our gathering consisted of our favorite food type, Mexican food. Tacos, Chips and Salsa, Burritos, and Tamales. It is always Mexican food, except for one off year we had Italian food. A lot of people did not enjoy the food as in other years. It is a fun time every year to eat and visit with family.
Every year we have family, friends, and in-laws come to my grandparents garage. We get to socialize with family and friends that we haven't been able to see much. Getting to see my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and other people related to me. The best part about this is our family “secret santa” drawing.
Every year, we draw names for a “secret santa” gift exchange. It helps bring our family (and extended family) closer together. Also it makes sure we know who our family is. We also get gifts from other family members too, so if someone was forgotten, they still get a gift or card. Then we clean up and leave so we are rested for the next morning, Christmas Day.
This is why I think Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.
Awesome! I love Mexican food. It's my favorite!! The more authentic, the better.
